Bassist James Macphail has been working professionally across Europe for nearly two decades. Since relocating to Cornwall in 2018, he has established himself as one of the South West’s most sought-after jazz bassists and sidemen. Leading his own trio, James explores the music and arrangements of legendary bassists including Oscar Pettiford and Ray Brown, bringing fresh interpretations to their timeless repertoire. Expect an evening of tasteful swing, lyrical improvisation, and joyful performances of classic selections from the Great American Songbook.
Joining James are two of Cornwall’s outstanding new generation of jazz musicians, pianist Joseph Game and drummer Zeb Murphy, alongside special guest and longtime collaborator Mike Rowlands on saxophone. Together they promise an evening of warmth, virtuosity, and classic straight-ahead jazz.
